Mobicom, an operator consortium comprising Mongolian and Japanese investors, has awarded Alcatel NV a contract for a Groupe Speciale Mobile infrastructure network in Mongolia, covering the capital Ulan Bator and serving 5,000 subscribers. Delivery of the mobile switching centre, the base station subsystem and microwave transmission gear begin at year-end, with the cellular network scheduled to go on air by the beginning of March 1996.
