Alcatel Alsthom SA has won a contract to build a high capacity fiber optic network around Microsoft’s Redmond, Washington campus. Alcatel will supply ten nodes of 1468 SM SONET multiplexers in a bi-directional line-switched ring configuration. The network will be built as three independent high speed rings, and will be co-ordinated by US West Communications Group Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
