Like most right-thinking people, Silicon Video Corp, Cupertino reckons that the liquid crystal diode is an inadequate answer to the problem of making a flat panel display, and is developing what it calls Thin CRTs, which use an array of tiny cathode guns to create the image in the belief that they will be brighter, need less power and be cheaper to make. It has had copious aid from Danbury, Connecticut-based Advanced Technology Materials Inc, which has developed thin-film technology for the field-emission cathodes, and has now made a $1m equity investment in Silicon Video to help get the Thin CRT displays into production.
