Berkeley, California-based Adax Inc is targeting Sun Microsystems Inc systems with a server-based wide area network access product, the APC-SBX. The hardware-software combination offers full 64Kbps to 45Mbps multiprotocol access to wide area networks directly from an application server, without the need to incorporate stand-alone bridges or routers into the network architecture, said the company. The product combines a network interface board and communications software to provide Sun Sparcsystems with direct multiprotocol Frame Relay and X.25 access. In addition, it is said to support Point-to-Point Protocol, SNA, Open System Interconnect, ISDN and Signalling System 7 communications protocols. The company adds that both boards and associated software contain a range of building blocks that will enable OEM customers and integrators to migrate specific applications across various operating systems and buses without additional integration efforts. The product can be used on its own, in multiples, or in conjunction with other Adax products, it said. The APC-SBX is available now, priced from ú1,500. The range and associated communications software are also available for iAPX-86-based systems running the Solaris X86 operating system, notes the company.
