Adaptec Inc, based in Milpitas, California reports that its AIC-6260 single-chip SCSI host adaptor is used in Digital Equipment Corp’s new 80486-based personal computers, built by Intel Corp: as part of the agreement, Adaptec is to supply Intel with its Advanced SCSI Programming Interface software, described as open-architecture, hardware-independent software for SCSI peripheral devices and it runs under several operating systems, including MS-DOS, OS/2 and Novell Inc NetWare; ASPI enables OEM customers to configure systems by integrating an SCSI peripheral device through a single software interface; the AIC-6260 host adaptor enables a synchronous data transfer of 5Mb per second over the SCSI bus and it support a variety of synchronous and asynchronous SCSI peripherals.
