The newly-formed Advanced RISC Technologies Ltd unit of Acorn Computer Group Plc intends to wait for the Common Hardware Reference Platform to be clarified and is predicting a third generation RISC machine with a Common Hardware-compliant PowerPC chip sitting alongside an Advanced RISC Machines Ltd ARM RISC processor. The dual processor design would take advantage of features such as bus-mastering and multiple personalties, said the new company’s director Peter Bondar. Acorn still has a 43% stake in Advanced RISC Machines. Bondar indicated that the motherboards could be manufactured by either IBM Corp or Apple Computer Inc.
