Absolute Software, a provider of firmware-based, computer theft recovery, data protection and secure computer lifecycle management offerings, has launched Computrace Mobile, a closed beta program for the Android platform.
According to the company the new offering provides asset administration, data protection and geolocation tracking for the Android line of devices, like tablets and smartphones.
The new Computrace Mobile for the Android platform delivers reduced operational costs associated with managing mobile devices by leveraging the Computrace platform’s integrated Customer Center reporting for hardware, software and user information, claims the company.
It also provides an additional layer of data protection and increased compliance with government data breach laws through remote Data Delete capabilities; and ability to geolocate a device and display it on an internet map including current and historical locations.
If a computer is reported stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team works on behalf of the user to gather evidence from the computer to identify the thief’s location, and then works with local police to get the computer back.
Users can also remotely delete data, freeze a device, and remotely retrieve files to secure the device – a reliable contingency in case other data protection solutions fail.
The Computrace Mobile is supported on Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1, 6.2, and 6.5 handheld devices; Symbian – S60 Third Edition and later releases; and BlackBerry Mobile Versions 4.5 and later, the company said.
