3Com has clinched two deals with the Republic of Korea Army and the Republic of Korea Air Force to upgrade their local area networks (LANs) using 3Com’s H3C enterprise products portfolio. These two projects will see 3Com overhauling the organisations’ LANs by replacing existing backbone and workgroup switches with new ones that will serve them for the next seven years.
The company claims that the new equipment will help the Korean Army and Air Force deploy hardware-based IPv6 without additional upgrades, and its auto voice VLAN feature will help improve the quality and reliability of their IP telephony deployment. The organisations will also have Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) support and services like network port virtualisation.

The 3Com networking products deployed by the Korean Army and Air Force include: H3C S7500E series, a core multi-service routing platform that integrates multiple services such as MPLS VPN, IPv6, network security, wireless and Passive Optical Network (PON) services; H3C S5500-EI series, an enterprise-class stackable Layer 2/3/4 switches with Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) that can virtualise multiple switches into one logical switch to improve resilience, flexibility and manageability.
In addition, 3Com said that the deployed products also include H3C S5100 PWR series, desktop switches that provide high-density GE ports, 10GE uplink, a variety of service features and QoS Access Control List (QACL) functions and can be used in convergence and access systems for intranets and metropolitan area networks (MANs).
