Software AG has acquired California-based Zementis for an undisclosed sum in a move designed to bolster its internet of things capability.
Zementis offers software for ‘deep learning’ which plays a crucial role in the development of machine learning, data science and fundamental technology that drives artificial intelligence (AI) development.
According to Software AG, the advances in machine learning and AI are being applied in the next generation Internet of Things (IoT) such as self-driving cars, personal digital assistants, medical diagnosis, predictive maintenance and robotics.
Software AG has already employed Adaptive Decision and Predictive Analytics (ADAPA) from Zementis into its Digital Business Platform to offer its clients with comprehensive insights for real time business analytics.
The German company claims that the combination of its real time streaming analytics and ADAPA’s predictive analytics can give out precise business and technical insights on several areas such as customer behaviour, market dynamics, security risks and sensor information from internet of things.
Software AG has already entered into strategic alliances with Bosch, Dell and Cumulocity for digital sensors integration and predicting maintenance requirements.
The company says that now these capabilities can be enhanced, with the machine learning based automated decisions in the areas of manufacturing, logistics or any data heavy use case.
Software AG claims that in order to speed up time-to-insight, Zementis relies on rapid operational deployment of predictive models which includes basic statistical algorithms to complex predictive models and deep learning capabilities.
These are especially employed in mission critical applications such as risk scoring, fraud detection and predictive maintenance.
Software AG CEO Karl-Heinz Streibich said: “The impact of the Internet of Things on industry, business and society will dwarf anything we have experienced through technology so far.
“This is now widely acknowledged by industry, as is the unique business insights that can be provided by combining predictive analytics, machine learning and streaming analytics.
“This combination has played a major role in the recent strategic IoT partnerships Software AG has established.”
Zementis CEO Michael Zeller said: “Zementis was founded with the vision of delivering true interoperability for Artificial Intelligence, allowing machine learning and predictive models to rapidly move from development to deployment, allowing data-centric organizations and enterprises to easily incorporate AI into their routine operations.
“Software AG’s open standards strategy empowers clients to manage heterogeneous IT architectures, and perfectly complements the vendor-neutral AI capabilities that our solutions deliver.”
