IBM Corp has acquired KnowledgeX from Integrated Technology Inc (ITI). A player in the emerging field of business intelligence software, KnowledgeX offers knowledge mapping, visualization, relationships and notification. The technology accepts data feeds from databases, newswires and the internet, and it’s supposed to be able to link seemingly random pieces of information in order to track trends and forecast competitors’ future activities. This sort of horoscope application is coveted by executives but has long proved elusive in practice. ITI says customers are using KnowledgeX for competitive intelligence, mergers and acquisitions, sales force automation and litigation. IBM now plans to integrate it with the DB2 Universal Database. Financial terms of the sale haven’t been disclosed.
