Pegasus Group Plc, the UK-based accounting software company, plans to break into Europe with its new 32-bit accounting package Mpower and is looking for partners in Germany to launch its attack on the continental market. Unlike its rival in the SME market Sage Software – which already has a strong European base – Pegasus now plans to buy existing companies to build a market presence. Instead, it will follow its business model in the UK and work through resellers. The big advantage Pegasus sees over its competitors is the Windows-based package is full integrated with Microsoft products. It supports SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0 though the company says it will add other databases if there is sufficient demand. Pegasus believes the modular basis of the package means it can be easily adapted for accounting systems overseas and it already can be run in most of the main languages. Germany is seen as an ideal launch pad into Europe where the accounting software market is highly fragmented; entry in the French market is likely to follow. MpOWER will be promoted as offering ERP-class performance to the SME sector and prices start at under 15,000 pounds for ten users.
