Unisys Corp is looking to its new service partnership agreement with Dell Computer Corp (CI No 3,408), to open sales of its entire portfolio of services to Dell’s customers, both in the US and worldwide. The company’s vice president and general manager Global Customer Services Joseph Walton says there are no details at the moment on how the Dell business will be split between Unisys and Wang Global Inc, the second global service partner appointed by Dell, but he was sure it would be a geographical split, with little or no overlap between the two service providers in any one country. Walton said Unisys has a very strong presence in Europe, where it already provides services to some 20,000 customers, but he would not comment on which areas he thought would fall to Unisys and which to Dell. The companies are apparently still sitting down and working out these details. Wang recently won the US federal services business formerly fulfilled by Digital Equipment Corp, and again Walton says there is unlikely to be any overlap between the companies in that area either. Unisys will provide whatever support services are required by Dell customers, including WAN and LAN management, consultancy, outsourcing and its One Call helpdesk facility. Walton says Unisys has integrated its systems with those of Dell through electronic data interchange and the internet, in order to provide a seamless service to customers. The deal is consistent with Unisys’ strategy of working with OEMs and the like to provide service and support under its SSP service partnership program, Walton said.
