Eastman Kodak Co has entered into the themed entertainment business, in a continuing move away from its traditional consumer retail film business. The Rochester, New York-based operation which has been experiencing financial difficulties of late (CI No 3,288), has bought Canadian, affiliated companies Rave Reviews Innovative Concessions Inc and Rave Reviews. The companies design and install photographic systems for theme park rides. When park visitors are traveling on the ‘thrill’ rides, an action shot photograph is taken, which they can buy for around $10. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The purchase indicates Kodak’s expanding business interests as it grapples to get back on its feet. Prior to the Rave acquisitions, Kodak has been on a drive to establish itself as a major player in the digital imaging market (CI No 3,147).
