Taiwan’s contract DRAM makers are expecting a mini-boom around the end of the year, according to reports in the local financial newspaper, the Commercial Times. The Taiwanese contractors report a steady increase in orders from overseas DRAM companies, many of whom are concentrating more on research and development, while relying the Island’s chip founders for production.

The Commercial Times notes that many major computer factories have this year inked strategic agreements with Taiwan contractors, such as IBM Corp, which has made an agreement with Nan Ya Technology Corp; Toshiba Corp, which has signed with Winbond Electronics Corp; and, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, which has allied with Macronix International Co Ltd.

DRAM prices have declined this year, but with demand freshening this slide is expected to halt early next year, and Taiwan’s contractors expect a prosperous year, furthered strengthened by the hedge against order volatility that their new strategic relationships should ensure.
