Solectron Corp has now completed its acquisition of IBM Corp’s Electronic Card Assembly and Test operations based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The deal was announced last month (CI No 3,409). Solectron says the deal will strengthen its high-end printed circuit board assembly manufacturing services and technical capabilities, and will also give it access to some 115 patents and 51 technical disclosures from IBM, on such things as die bonding and encapsulation and testing of IC and manufacturing processes. Robert Bradshaw, the former general manager of IBM’s facility, will become president and general manager of Solectron’s Charlotte facility, which is being merged with the IBM operation.
