Intel Corp is saying that its roll out of .18 micron technology processors won’t be quite as smooth as it anticipated. The 600MHz Coppermine Pentium III chip is now expected to be delayed until November, two months behind schedule. The mobile version of the Pentium III will also be affected, appearing first in 500MHz versions, rather than 600MHz. To fill in the gap, Intel is expected to extend the .25 micron Pentium III up to 600MHz instead, and has plans to bring forward a new round of Pentium II price cuts, very shortly. The first .18 micron chips were launched at the start of this week in the shape of 400MHz mobile Celerons (CI No 3,681).
