Amazon.com Inc has settled its legal dispute with the Amazon Bookstore Cooperative, a feminist bookstore in Minneapolis. The companies will work together to ensure that the public isn’t confused by the fact that their names are similar. The Amazon Bookstore Cooperative, which has been around for thirty years, has agreed to refer to itself by using its full legal name at all times, while upstart Amazon.com Inc gets the common law rights to the Amazon name. The Cooperative sued the online retailer on April 7, and the case was due for trial next year, but this settlement means the lawsuit will be dismissed.
