Mechanical design automation and product data management software house Structural Dynamics Research Corp says that it has acquired the Rapid Information Presentation Services (RIPS) software product assets from document management company Altris Software Inc. SDRC handed over $3.0m to Altris in exchange for the full ownership rights for the jointly-developed product, including the software and the Altris-Metaphase development team. SDRC claims the deal allows it to provide robust document management capabilities to its Metaphase Enterprise PDM customers. The two say they have been working together on the development of enhanced offerings for Metaphase customers for years, and Altris asserts that the sale is a natural progression which allows it to concentrate on its core document management systems business. SDRC says it will have a self-branded and self-supported document management product available to its customers later this year.
