Dell has launched two new Precision mobile workstations, the M4700 and M6700, which will offer better performance and dependability to professionals working away from the office.

Dell claims the workstations are suitable for any mobile professionals who want to run graphics or compute intensive applications faster and more accurately, regardless of the location.

M4700 is Dell’s 15-inch mobile workstation with enhanced portability and performance and the Dell Precision M6700 is a 17-inch display workstation that provides fixed workstation capability and enhanced performing graphics.

The two new systems incorporate Intel Core i5, i7 and Extreme Edition processors with Turbo Boost Technology. They also include NVIDIA Quadro K-series GPUS and AMD FirePro graphics.

Both systems come with expandability in the form of RAID 0/1/5 and three storage devices with up to 1.8TB of total storage in the M4700 and up to four storage devices with up to 2.8TB of total storage in the M6700.

The new workstations provide DDR3 SDRAM with up to 32GB of system memory and 1600MHz of memory speed and up to 16GB of 1866MHz memory. They also offer an optional SATA3 512GB solid state drive (SSD).

Dell Precision M4700 and M6700 include several ports which will enable users to connect to numerous formats and devices without carrying around multiple dongles, increase storage and connect to more displays.

The I/O ports include two USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, one eSATA / USB combo ports and three integrated video ports that include one VGA, one HDMI and one DisplayPort 1.2.

Dell’s new mobile workstations feature an aluminum and magnesium alloy chassis that is MIL-STD 810G tested, an optional slice battery, ExpressCharge battery and NVIDIA Optimus technology, which optimises the system to provide enhanced graphics performance.

The new workstations will feature quiet dual fans and cooling solutions for the CPU and graphics allowing long periods of high performance without overheating, according to Dell.

The ejectable primary hard drive caddy in them will allow customers working with large volumes of data or sensitive data and need to remove or swap out hard drives frequently.

The M4700 and M6700 can power up to three simultaneous displays when undocked and up to five displays when docked and are compatible with the Latitude E-family dock. They also offer different WLED and IPS RBG LED display options with a wide spectrum of colors including more than 100% Adobe color gamut.

The M6700 offers Phoenix Red Covet Edition, AMD FirePro M6000 with PCIe x16 Gen 3 for fast data throughput and is also expected to offer optional 10+ finger multi-touch in the coming months.

M6700 also features NVIDIA 3D Vision Pro, a combination of wireless active shutter glasses, an integrated RF communication hub,and advanced software. This technology automatically transforms various CAD/CAM/CAE, DCC, seismic visualisation, life sciences and other applications into full stereoscopic 3D.

Dell Precision mobile workstations come backed with Dell ProSupport, Dell Data Protection Encryption and FIPS fingerprint reader security features and ISV certifications.

Dell Computing Products vice president Kirk Schell said the new family of mobile workstations offer performance, dependability and design.

"We are continuing to build on our heritage of developing innovative workstation technology by offering the first NVIDIA 3D Vision Pro solution, Gen 3 graphics and 1866MHz memory in a mainstream mobile workstation, enabling our customers to bring their creative and design work to life fast regardless of their location," Schell said.
