Unisys Corp is looking to get into the fiber channel based Network Attached Storage business with the release of its NAS2000 server. While the company concedes it was beaten to the market by the likes of Compaq Computer Corp and Auspex Systems Inc, it claims to be the only major manufacturer to implement fiber channel throughout its system rather than just at the front end. Gert Mulder channel manager for Europe, describes the Auspex offering as more proprietary, adding that it is also more expensive. While he concedes the comparative Compaq system has been on the market for around a year, Mulder claims its product is not perfect yet.
