US software vendor SalesLogix Corp has integrated the latest version of its eponymous sales force automation (SFA) package, SalesLogix 3.0, with a number of enterprise software suites, such as accounting. SalesLogix 3.0 includes an application programming interface (API) to enable salespeople to read from and write to the database, even when accessing it remotely, and a software developers’ kit for more basic changes. In addition, version 3.0 includes a COM layer, which makes it possible to link the program with computer-telephony integration packages and Palmpilot and CE-based hand-held devices, explained CEO Pat Sullivan. He added that, building on this feature, the company is also planning a callcenter-type product for launching over the next six months. With regard to the integration with accounting programs, the new version of SalesLogix can link to the major packages in the US market, such as Grand Plains and Solomon, and in Europe it will integrate with Sage and Tetrus. The company is also working on integration to SAP AG’s enterprise resource planning software suite. In parallel with the launch of 3.0, SalesLogix is also rolling out a product to enable its program to run within a web browser. This means that, whereas previously remote access needed to be made from a fat client, thin ones can now be used, enabling salespeople to consult the company’s database, even though their laptops are loaded with only a small part of the files normally required to do so. The Scottsdale, Arizona-based company expects revenues of $20m this year, up from $5m in 1997, and Sullivan estimates that before the end of 1999 an initial public offering followed by a listing is likely, with Nasdaq the probable venue.
