Sterling Commerce Inc has teamed up with Symantec Corp yesterday to announce a partnership under which the two will integrate their leading products to help network administrators manage their remote systems more effectively.

The alliance integrates the best of Symantec’s pcAnywhere 9.0 remote support software with Sterling’s Connect:Remote systems management product to produce a combined offering which the two say will enable systems administrators to better manage their remote and mobile systems and at the same time decrease support costs.

With pcAnywhere, helpdesk staff can connect to a remote PC and operate it as if they were on site, taking over manual control of the mouse and fixing any specific problems the user is having. By integrating with Connect:Remote, administrators get additional tools for software distribution, asset and configuration management, content and application management and diagnostics and recovery.

Sterling said it will also provide pcAnywhere in a future version of Connect:Manage, the company’s web-enabled remote systems management product.
