Oracle Corp has struck a deal with helpdesk software company Remedy Corp, to integrate Remedy’s software with the Oracle8 database and the Oracle Applications suite. The companies claim that Remedy and Oracle users will be able to share information between help desk and enterprise resource planning applications without the need for customized integration, and at the same time will reduce the cost of maintaining redundant internal databases. The first of Remedy’s software to be integrated with Oracle’s offerings will be a new product called Remedy Link, intended to be used with Oracle Applications. The software will enable a general purpose, bi-directional data link between any Remedy Action Request System and any Oracle Application module. This will be available later this month, and will include ready-to-use optimization functions for Remedy’s product line and Oracle’s database server, including features such as automatic configuration and preference settings. The agreement comes at a time when Mountain View, California-based Remedy is going through a tricky financial stage. While it saw revenues increase 15.9% to $18.6m in the first quarter, profits fell 50.6% to $2.7m (CI No 3,393). As a result of the deal, Remedy will become a member of the Oracle Alliance Program, and both companies will work together on the development, marketing and servicing of the new technology.
