UK IT services and software company Logica Plc has been awarded a contract by a joint venture of two Polish banks to develop, provide software for and support a new point of sale payments network in that country. The London-based company will supply its MCx back-office processing application, together with the Postilion online authorization package from South African developer Mosaic Software Pty Ltd, to eService SA, a company jointly owned by PKO-BP and Bank Slaski SA.
The eService network, to be launched in August 2000, will be entering a market already served by two other POS networks, but is coming in with some advantages in terms of the breadth of its offering. Logica said the network will be able to accept payment by credit and debit cards, not only from the two parent banks themselves, but also from Visa, MasterCard and Europay, plus some private label cards. The UK services and services company estimates the value of the contract to be around $2m.
