Sun Microsystems Inc chief scientist and co-founder Bill Joy clearly believes there is room for some higher level functions on top of Jini that it currently does not incorporate. He mentioned security, and broking/agent type technologies but didn’t say Sun is working specifically on any of these. Hewlett-Packard Co claims its E-Speak distributed hypervisor for brokering between services can already incorporate Jini as a subset of its functions. It claims that having been simulated running over a million nodes already, the theory suggests E-Speak can reach five million with little problem. But for Joy E-Speak is just a marketing campaign. He’s got nothing against it, he says, but the difference is that in ten years Jini will still be around and E-Speak won’t.
