Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet has selected Citrix XenServer technology to power its public cloud application, Dynamic Cloud Server.
Use of Citrix XenServer technology will help web hosting company to standardise its cloud services on Citrix XenServer.
Citrix XenServer will enable the hosting company to deliver granular control of server resources using a cloud-ready virtualisation platform to meet customer price, performance and scalability requirements.
The web hosting firm said it chose XenServer technology to build its Dynamic Cloud Server for XenServer’s product maturity, open source code-base, flexible pricing model, and Citrix worldwide support and services.
XenServer is a server virtualisation platform built on the Xen hypervisor. Xen technology and designed for efficient management of Windows and Linux virtual servers, delivering cost-effective server consolidation and business continuity.
1&1 Internet vice president Michael Frenzel said XenServer has delivered the right combination of features, performance and price to support 1&1 Internet in its strategy to build and scale its cloud computing service.
"Xen and XenServer are technically sound platforms that continue to lead the way in functionality and performance. Combined with our significant internal resources, it was an easy decision to partner with them for our cloud virtualization platform," Frenzel said.
A subsidiaryof United Internet, 1&1 Internet said it hosts more than 11 million domain names and more than 70,000 servers run on the company’s five data centres.
