ISPNews-HighWind Inc, the usenet software and services outfit has changed its name to bCandid Inc, and has announced a UK reseller deal to target the burgeoning ISP portal market. bCandid, formed from the merger of HighWind Inc and ISPNews Inc last October, said it has changed its name to reflect the candor expressed on usenet newsgroups, and provide customers with less of a mouthful.

Announcing a reseller agreement with Reality Computing Ltd for the UK market, CEO Frank Bergen said the rapid growth in internet users, fed by the new subscription-free ISPs, had prompted the company to look to Europe. A European headquarters is unlikely said Bergen due to the company’s success selling over the internet.

bCandid’s UK customers include British Telecommunications Plc and ClaraNet Ltd. The firm sells its Cyclone news router and Typhoon news server based on rates of feeds coming through the system, or outsources the service based on amount of concurrent users.
