Microsoft Corp filed a legal motion yesterday in an attempt to force Novell Inc to provide it with information it needs for the Justice Department’s antitrust trial beginning on September 8, according to Bloomberg Microsoft wants information on Novell’s internet technology and software so it can fight allegations that its monopoly has quashed competition in the web browser market. It also subpoenaed other companies, including IBM Corp, Sun Microsystems Inc and Network Computer Inc. But Novell is arguing that the requested information contains trade secrets. The motion was filed on July 14, and a hearing has been scheduled for August 3. Today, Microsoft is the subject of a hearing held by the Senate Judiciary Committee, under the leadership of Orrin Hatch. Microsoft doesn’t plan to attend or testify.
