IBM Corp has patented a personal area network PAN system that allows people to use their hand rather than a cash card to obtain money. New Scientist reports the PAN-based cashcard sends encrypted data through electrodes which are in contact with your skin. The card stays in your wallet, cutting the risk of it being snatched when you obtain cash. Meantime, another PAN development will nag you for being lazy or eating too much. Seiko Epson of Tokyo has patented a pocket device that continually monitors your pulse and body temperature. You key in your sex, age, weight and height and what you are eating into the little snooper. According to New Scientist, it will work out whether you are working or relaxing, tell you how much food you need and tick you off for unhealthy behavior. With a simple link to the IBM device, it could also tell you off for spending too much.
