In an announcement intended to deflect attention away from the threat of growing competetion from the likes of Microsoft Corp, internet-based airline ticket service Priceline.com Inc said Friday that it had set a new record for one-day sales. The Stamford, Connecticut-based company claims it sold more than 10,000 airline tickets last Thursday. The new single-day record compares to an average of 1,000 tickets a day that were sold at the beginning of the year, the company says. Microsoft said earlier last week that it would be introducing a feature on its Expedia travel site that will allow customers to name their own price for airline tickets – the business model that set Priceline apart from competitors in the first place. รก
