PC shipments in China grew 15.7% year-on-year to 2.04 million units in the first six months, with notebook shipments up 29.1% to 133,000 according to figures from the official Center of Computer and Microelectronic Industry Development (CCID). Domestic manufacturers continue to expand their market share which now stands at 50% the report said without giving figures for individual companies. As the price of desktop computers continued to slide, local PC makers benefited from their lower costs to grab more market share, CCID said. Driving the growth has been the home PC market, which now accounts for nearly 35% of the total market. A booming home PC market can be expected in the next several years, stimulated by a rapid expansion of the country’s internet users, according to the report.
