MICROSOFT TALKS UP PLATO OLAP FEATURES

By CBR Staff Writer

Microsoft Corp is trumpeting more details of its Plato OLAP server which is to ship bundled with SQL Server 7 as OLAP Services in the first quarter of next year. Write-back transactions and concurrency provides applications with ‘what-if’ analysis and budgeting and forecasting functions. It says member properties enable users to perform fine grain analysis of multidimensional data. Distributed query resolution is said to balance query activity between client and server resources. It says Business Objects, Broadbase, Decisionism, IQ Software, Portola Dimensional Systems, Maximal Innovative Intelligence, PowerPlan and Arcplan have so far announced products for OLAP Services and OLE DB for OLAP interfaces.
