The UK Ministry of Defence has denied reports in a Sunday newspaper that claimed hackers took control of a UK military satellite and demanded money from the British government. The Sunday Business claimed that unknown hackers altered the position of one of the UKÆs four geo-synchronous Skynet military communications satellites before issuing the government with a blackmail demand. An MoD spokeperson told Computergram it would impossible for anybody to hack into a satellite and work out how to use it before anybody found out. The Sunday Business just didnÆt check its facts The spokesperson went on to say the controls for military satellites are kept off-line and are thus unhackable. The AntiOnline hackersÆ web site speculated that the incident, if it indeed occurred, could only have been an inside job.
