The Berkman Center at Harvard University has confirmed that it will indeed host the final meeting in the International Forum on the White Paper (IFWP) series. The first closed meeting of 20-30 ‘stakeholders’ will be held September 12-13. That will hopefully produce a draft set of articles of incorporation for the new entity to run the internet domain name system. A week later, on Saturday September 19, there will be an open public meeting, which anyone can attend, that will debate the draft – but only if such a draft is ready. The agenda for both meetings and the attendee list for the first will be left to the Berkman professor, which includes Larry Lessig, the special master in the Microsoft Corp antitrust case. We hear that at the moment, the only two bodies guaranteed to get an invite are Network Solutions Inc (NSI) and the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA); that’s probably because apart from those two all the other attendees will be controversial choices, to one extent or another.
