Israel’s First Access Ltd, which won the BYTE award for Best Security Product at CeBIT in Hanover, has been courted by a number of large companies interested in the technology including Sun Microsystems Inc, Hewlett-Packard Co, IBM Corp, Motorola Inc, NCR Corp, Alcatel NV and Microsoft Corp. Sun is thinking about incorporating the technology into its workstations, while Alcatel is interested in using the technology in its business telephone exchange systems. Because the technology is capable of knowing where an employee is located – next to which company computer – calls can be directed appropriately so that staff who need to move away from their desks can be easily contacted. A new industry standard is under preparation that will be based on First Access technology.
