Hummingbird Communications Inc is the latest decision support company to prepare its ground for the launch of Microsoft Corp’s forthcoming OLAP server Plato. Hummingbird says the beta test version of its Pablo online analytical processing client, which it acquired along with Andyne Computing Ltd last October (CI No 3,270), is now available in a beta test version supporting the OLE DB multidimensional application programming interface to be used by Plato. Support for OLE DB means that Hummingbird’s GQL and Pablo will support servers running Plato, along with non- Microsoft OLAP servers. The final release will be timed to ship with Plato. Pablo can be used to extract summary information from corporate databases for business analysis. It has an integrated cube building engine called CubeCreator, for creating Hypercubes the can be used to drill down through layers of data to spot trends and relationships.
