Intel Corp has launched a new dual-processor board aimed at the server market which it says offers three times more PCI bandwidth than competitive boards. The L440GX+ is part of Intel’s Real Server initiative, through which it is attempting to differentiate servers built using its processors from standard desktop PCs. The board is one of Intel’s boxed server building block products for resellers. It has two Pentium II or III processors, supports Ultra2 SCSI storage, 2Gb SDRAM memory and dual peer PCI buses. There are six available PCI slots and one ISA slot, and comes bundled with server management software and hardware. With the board, Intel has introduced two new server chassis, Astor II and Columbus III. Intel also announced the availability of its quad processor board, the SC450NX.
