Microsoft Corp and other on-line companies offering mapping services are being sued by a patent holding company from Denver, Colorado, which claims to hold several patents on electronic mapping systems, according to Bloomberg. The company, CIVIX-DDI, has filed suit in US District Court in Denver, and is seeking damages from companies such as America Online Inc, Infoseek Corp, Lycos Inc, Rand-McNally & Co, Yahoo Inc and BellSouth Corp, as well as Microsoft. William Semple, a spokesperson for the company, told Bloomberg that the infringing products have generated somewhere over $1bn in revenues so far.” The Denver Post was also included in the suit, presumably just because it’s local. Many other companies offer similar services.
