Hewlett-Packard Co says the deal it recently inked with BEA Systems Inc for the application and middleware software is the first piece of its new internet vision. It says it also has arrangements with other third parties in the pipeline to deliver other parts of the stack. It will mix it up with its own technology including leveraging its work on secure transactions. It is also changing its business model to better reflect its internet aspirations. For instance, its deal with Ariba for portal development is structured so that HP gets a revenue stream from each transaction conducted using the portal technology, as well as from the sale of systems and services.
