Virtual Motion Inc has merged through a mutual stock exchange with Acotec Gmbh, in a move that will give the US company more efficient ISDN connection software for its Windows NT Remote Access Server communications application. The merger, which will not result in any exchange of staff between the two and will give the German company a further outlet in the US, and the US company access to Acotec’s ISDN software. Although Virtual Motion also produces ISDN software for remote access servers the German company has developed an intelligent mechanism for filtering lines, which means that there is only a line open to remote access server when needed, according to a spokesperson for the German company. This makes connections to the RAS cheaper to maintain, which is a particular consideration in the European market where telecommunications costs are higher than in the US. Virtual Motion’s customers include server hardware manufacturers, such as Compaq Computer Corp and RAS card vendors Ariel Corp and Eicon Corp, whereas Acotec provides principally ISDN software for to a range of companies including Digi International Inc and Ascend Communications Inc. The companies did not reveal the stake they each hold in each other’s company.
