Starting next year Scandinavian television audiences will be able to watch digital transmissions from satellites, cable and so-called ground transmitters by using an add-on to their set top boxes, a Swedish Telia AB spokesman said today. Working through a very loosely put together organization called Nordig, several Scandinavian TV and telecommunications companies including the state-owned stations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland as well as a number of private TV channels, are trying to set a common future standard for digital TV transmissions. A combination box with all three different types of signals built in will be available towards the end of 1999. The estimated price will be around $700.
