Having sold off its multi-user Windows NT and client software products Citrix Systems Inc for $17m – see separate item in Top Stories section – Insignia Solutions Inc says it will re-focus its troubled business on core Windows and PC emulation software and new Java technologies. It claims to have written a clean room implementation of Java for embedded devices which means no license fees has to be paid to Java-owner Sun Microsystems Inc. The Java virtual machine technology, said to be out at evaluation with potential partners, is at the proof-of-concept stage. Insignia says products will ship in the second half of the year. Insignia says its Java technology will be faster, smaller, easier to implement and more deterministic that other embedded Java designs.
