Seiko Instruments Inc claims that its wristwatch personal computer to be launched in Japan on June 10 will be the world’s first wearable PC. The watch, called the Ruputer, can download text and pictures from personal computers and will be sold with three applications that run on Windows 95. Seiko plans to sell 100,000 of the watches in the first year and two models will be in offer with prices ranging from $284 to $359. The watch comes with a 16-bit CPU and 128Kb of main memory. Games can be played on the watch and data exchanged with other watches by infrared signals. The Ruputer follows on the heels of the watches with built-in pagers which Seiko sells in the US.
