UK based Internet Exchange Points (IXP) London Internet Exchange (LINX) is planning to deploy Extreme Networks’ BlackDiamond X8 switch to help meet network data traffic during London Olympics.

The IXP has selected BlackDiamond X8 switch for its Ethernet network to fortify its exchange point enabling them to handle higher network data traffic during 2012 Olympic Games to be held this summer.

According to the December 2011 Lippis Test Report, BlackDiamond X8 switch delivers scalability with 20 terabits of capacity in a one third rack, 2.3 us latency, 5.6 watts per 10 GE port power consumption and a port density of 768 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports of any switch.

LINX is deploying multiple BlackDiamond X8 switches to handle Internet peering traffic, the company said.

LINX CTO Derek Cobb said, "We are upgrading with Extreme Networks BlackDiamond X8 because the product is a new performance leader in data center switching."
