Leading UK bank Natwest has formed a strategic alliance with InterTrust Technologies Corp to offer an e-commerce security package for companies that want to provide information on the internet and receive payment each time that information is accessed. Companies offering music, software, publishing voice and video are the main targets for Natwest’s new push into e-commerce with a package it says will offer greater protection against piracy. With global ambitions to become a major force in multi-currency e-commerce through its card business, Natwest sees the link with Sunnyvale, California-based InterTrust as a way of providing a more complete package. InterTrust already boasts Mitsubishi Corp and Rights Exchange Inc as partners. Its Enterprise 1.0 software, launched in July, is designed to extend the enterprise security perimeter into the extranet and organize digital distribution channels.
