Networking firm Cisco has introduced its ASR 5500 platform, an elastic application for mobile Internet networks which can accommodate volatile traffic patterns and changing demands on the network.

Cisco ASR 5500 system integrates signaling, data, in-line services and policy and charging control within a single platform.

It delivers a 10-times performance improvement in throughput, capable of scaling from hundreds of gigabits to a terabit platform.

The application enables auto-sizing of existing network resources to address 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi access, user sessions, transactions, signaling and data throughput.

The elastic mobile architecture of ASR 5500 allows applications to scale up or down to meet processing requirements, enabling service providers to adjust resources and adapt to multiple conditions and network usage patterns.

Cisco said it has deployed the Cisco ASR 5000 series with several leading global service providers to power the next-generation 3G, 4G, 4G long-term evolution (LTE) and Wi-Fi mobile services.
