Unified IP business communications software and services provider Interactive Intelligence Group has released Interaction Edge, a new combined gateway, media server and SIP proxy appliance to streamline enterprise IP telephony deployments.

The new appliance provides gateway capabilities that connects traditional trunk lines and voice-over-IP networks and also combines media server and SIP proxy functionality in a single appliance.

Interactive Intelligence chief marketing officer Joe Staples said, "By combining functionality onto a single appliance, enterprises and contact centers can simplify IT management and reduce costs."

Interaction Edge is paired with Customer Interaction Center (CIC), the company’s all-in-one IP communications software suite, to deliver mid-size to large contact centres and enterprises applications such as interactive voice response, automatic call distribution, multichannel recording, predictive dialing, unified messaging.

The media server offloads the CIC application server by handling all audio processing for improved reliability and performance while the SIP proxy routes calls between servers in enterprise IP telephony environments for increased operational efficiencies and remote survivability.

The gateway capabilities of Interaction Edge are available in one, two, four, and eight-span increments for flexible scalability, the company said.
