Internet speed is set at a premium these days and people are increasingly keen to ensure that their connection isn’t lagging. CBR rounds up some of the 4G routers on the market for both home and office.

1. Huawei B593s-22

This router from the Chinese networking giant works with all UK 4G network frequencies and is backwards compatible with 3G when 4G is unavailable. It is aimed at both the home and the enterprise market, providing connectivity options for VOIP phones, fax, printers and other office equipment. The device carries four LAN Ethernet Ports for wired connections and built-in wi-fi for wireless LAN connectivity. It is available for around £150.

2. Proroute H820

Proroute’s offering is built on its existing 3G router technology, which has been upgraded with a new high-speed 4G module. It carries 4 LAN ports and wireless LAN, as well as a WAN port allowing it to be connected to another router. It can then be configured to use the WAN internet connection and then reboot the 3G/4G connection if the internet connection is lost, providing a fail-safe function for a wired broadband network. It costs around £234.00.

3. Draytek Vigor 2860n

The wireless-N router can support both ADSL or VDSl, which will make it useful for those who are currently on ADSL but may want to upgrade later. This carries six LAN ports and comes with security features such as web application controls, content filtering and a firewall management system. The release from Draytek also supports IPv6, the eventual successor to the current IPv4 addressing system. The device is priced at around £200.

4. Cisco 819 Integrated Services Router

The US-based networking company has built a router specifically for the enterprise market. The 819 supports machine-to-machine applications, specifically targeting markets such as industrial automation, transportation, healthcare and retail. The hardware is fully integrated with Cisco IOS and can support data, voice and video communications. It is available in both hardened and non-hardened versions for around £885.

5. D-Link DWR-921

This device from D-Link, costing around £150, provides download speeds of up to 100 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. It uses dual-active firewalls, SPI and NAT, to prevent internet intrusions and is designed to be easily installable on buses, trains or boats. The device carries two fail-safes: a dual-band connection for 3G if 4G drops out and an xDSL/FTTH Ethernet WAN option if mobile broadband fails altogether.
