SANS Institute has created the world’s first intensive cyber boot camp designed to launch trained cyber security defenders in a short time.
The SANS Cyber Academy will offer a compressed a 24-month cyber security training and experience into an eight-week course, which will provide candidates with enough knowledge to take up cyber security roles in various organisations.
The Cyber Academy has been created to meet the increasing demand of government and business for a way to quickly equip recent graduates with specific skills required to deal with present day cyber threats, SANS said.
The eight-week course will provide the candidates insight into how hackers operate, and ways they can respond to situations.
Candidates will build a fully functioning business network to understand the ways hackers can get in.
SANS Cyber Academy will also teach students to carry out hands-on exercises, including hacking a drone, in order to find vulnerabilities and loopholes in unfamiliar systems.
Candidates will also be taught to make security policy recommendations in order to prevent reoccurrence of problems.
Upon the completion of the course, candidates will receive GCIH and GSEC certifications.
SANS Academy experts are likely to work with companies and universities to select potential candidates, while companies are also invited to sponsor students.
SANS Cyber Academy curriculum author James Lyne said: "This course will teach tonnes of practical skills.
"It provides a safe environment to play with malicious code most people will never get their hands on. This is a radical new way of developing cyber skills and absolutely the best mechanism to accelerate the development of recent grads."
