Juniper Networks has announced an expanded engineering partnership with Mirantis, in order to provide customers with an open-source Software Defined Networking fabric to deploy OpenStack clouds.

Mirantis OpenStack will now support and interoperate with Juniper Contrail Networking, a standards based SDN solution for enterprise and service provider customers.

Mirantis OpenStack will also support and interoperate with OpenContrail, which is an open source SDN solution.

Integration of Mirantis OpenStack with Juniper Contrail Networking gives the enterprise-grade support that customers expect for large-scale open-source cloud deployments."

With the OpenStack market estimated to grow in size to $1.7bn by 2016, there is growing demand from enterprises and service providers for open-source software.

The two companies have published a reference architecture for deploying and managing Juniper Contrail Networking with Mirantis OpenStack. This will help customers to scale OpenStack clouds without the need for vendor-propritary networking and management software.
